Minor in Computer Science
The Computer Science Minor is available to all students who are not majoring in Computer Science and who do not have a modified major with Computer Science. The prerequisites and required courses are listed below. Approval of a Minor in Computer Science can be obtained through the Departmental Undergraduate Advisor.
Changes have been made to the CS Minor, which take effect from Fall 2026. Information about new courses and updated requirements below.
Minor Degree Requirements [updated]
To minor in CS, a student must:
- Fulfill the prerequisite courses (COSC 1 or ENGS 20; MATH 8, 9, 11, or 13)
- Take COSC 10 and any four other courses drawn from at least two of the following three sets: COSC 30-49; COSC 15, COSC 50-69; and COSC 70-89
- In the rare and exceptional case a student places out of a core course, then they will need to take an elective course so that they pass at least six CS courses among the core and elective ones.
Students who enrolled before Fall 2026 are encouraged to fulfil the updated requirements listed above. However, they may choose to fulfil previously followed requirements for the CS Minor, as listed below.
Minor Degree Requirements [For students of Classes '27, '28, '29]
To become a CS Minor, students must:
- Fulfill the prerequisite courses (COSC 1 and COSC 10)
- Take five courses in (30-89), covering at least two of the three course categories (30-49), (50-69), and (70-89). In other words, all five courses can't be in the same pillar.
