Dartmouth Events

From the scanning of terrestrial landscapes to make sense of human and geophysical processes, to the observations of the terrain and formations of Mars and the Moon, the techniques and technologies of remote sensing are changing the ways in which many disciplines create new and important understandings. While formerly the province of a small community of scientists working on niche projects, remote sensing is now an important source of data across a wide range of disciplines, from Anthropology to Earth Sciences to Economics to Classics, while also presenting interesting challenges for data fusion and machine learning in the mathematical and computational sciences and even opportunities for artistic and creative investigations. For the 21^st century liberal arts university, remote sensing presents many interesting opportunities for pedagogy too. 

The breadth of work in remote sensing is well represented on the Dartmouth campus. In the interest of creating a community around this field and its applications across the disciplines, we write here to invite the Dartmouth community to participate in a remote meeting, Remote²@Dartmouth (remote for remote - hence Remote² !! ;-)) on the afternoon of December 8, 2020. If you are interested in attending and/or presenting (6 slides), please fill out the relevant information in this Google Doc. Presentations can be on finished or ongoing work but might also just be nascent ideas. To be clear – being interested is reason enough to attend! As submissions come in, we’ll be back in touch with logistics and schedule.
